About this Student

Hi, my name is Valerie and am a 15-year-old girl. I am a very understanding person, you can always come to me if something is bothering you. I also am a happy person. I can laugh with you a lot. I can indicate my boundaries, I say something about it if it’s going to far. My favorite hobby is horse riding, I’ve started horse riding when I was 6 and made a deal with my parents: if I get my last swimming diploma, I can start horse riding. Since the day I started, I never stopped. Now I have my own horse for about 2 years now (after I talked to my parents about it for 4 years!). But I made it, and I am very happy about it! My horses name is Glaville and he is 10 years old. He is my whole heart! I also go to the gym 2 times a week and I train legs and glutes. Sometimes I also work on my endurance.

I really don’t have any expectations for my stay abroad. I am actually very curious about how life is in America, is it very different from The Netherlands? I don’t know. I am very exited mainly because I don’t know what to expect. In The Netherlands the most common thing is to ride your bike everywhere. I am convinced everyone in The Netherlands has one. It’s rare when someone comes to school by car, everyone is jealous then! You may think, hmm cheese is something every Dutch person loves. But you are wrong! If I am honest I really don’t like cheese at all. You can get cheese in every store you can imagine (except the clothes stores of course haha). Something I do like is SNERT (split pea soup) I don’t know if you know it or if you think right now “why would you make soup from peas?”. It is actually really good, it does not taste like peas at all. Split pea soup, if you put some smoked sausage in it, which sounds very weird that makes it even better. Anyways, I hope to be able to share more about my culture and you will be able to share yours!
